ah time to reload the cup..mmm sure was good...

More and more, health-conscious consumers are making choices in their daily lives that minimize their exposure to plastics. However, the thermodynamic properties of the plastics must be taken into consideration.

For example, depending on the thermal properties of the material in question, a hot liquid placed into contact with plastic poses a greater risk of leaching than does a room-temperature liquid placed into contact with the plastic. Thus, our coffee brewing equipment should be carefully scrutinized for plastic components.

These are two of the solid options available for coffee enthusiasts wishing to minimize their exposure to questionable plastics in order to preserve their health while still enjoying the best coffee in the world. .

The French Press Option

One expensive but beautiful option is the Frieling french press, which is comprised of all stainless steel. This unit produces a smooth coffee drink.

The Moka Pot (Stovetop Espresso) Option

A less expensive, bolder flavor is available in the Bialetti moka pot, known as a stovetop espresso machine and treasured in Italy. This unit requires an espresso grind, and may be considered slightly less desirable due to its aluminum content.

Note: As with most health issues, studies on the details of plastic and aluminum exposure are somewhat inconclusive. However, it is generally considered best to err on the side of caution.
